I always feel like I should be doing something worthy on Bank Holiday weekends. So I went to visit the Wellcome Collection in Euston with a couple of chums. The Wellcome Collection is a little difficult to categorise – part art gallery, part museum. It’s dedicated to medicine through the ages, and… well, perhaps these photos will give you some idea of the sort of thing to expect.

This, according to one of the exhibits, is the face of the average Londoner.

Kill it! For God's sake, kill it!

This is apparently a tribute to The Atrocity Exhibition by J G Ballard.

Yr. Humble Chronicler's biometric identity.

Charles Darwin's wicked-awesome walking stick.

Napoleon Bonaparte's toothbrush of silver and ivory.

Snuffbox made out of a ram's head. Why would you do a thing like that.

A little memento mori, one of several. "Having a good time? Well, you're going to die har har har."

"Vanitas". One of those skull-beneath-the-skin-remember-you-too-must-die jobbies.

Male anti-masturbation devices. I'm not clear exactly how they worked, and frankly I'm happy to remain ignorant.

A collection of artificial limbs, or possibly Cyberdyne's stock cupboard.
So yes, it’s an intriguing museum and well worth a browse if you have a couple of hours to kill. Nearest Tube stations are Euston, Euston Square and Warren Street.
